I was a volunteer as a photographer. They held the exhibition at Melbourne Gaol and it was awesome. They all brought and showed so unique ideas and performances. I think the ART is also can’t be separated from new technologies. Most of them used the new technologies to show and to enrich their art works.

well I would like to change my blog name. I am still thinking about the blog name and my project name as well because I am going to use the same name for both my blog and my project.

I think my topic is maybe simple but it is very big. I don’t know but when my uncle, aunty or my parents use the mobile phone they always ask me how to go into the menu. When they go into the menu they ask me again how to find the icon that they want to use. Well, it isn’t hard for me or us but for them it might be very scary thing to do because they didn’t grow up with these new ‘technologies’ and small technologies. Actually my topic is came from my experience and my people at the first stage.
It looks like simple but it is big and it will be bigger.
Why do I have to choose this topic for my project? Is there any problem?
Yes, I think it is very serious problem and it will be much bigger problem in 5 years. The birth rate is getting lower and the older people is living longer than before. Also older people is stable in financially compared with younger people because they can just enjoy their lives with their money or pension. This means that they can be the biggest consuming population in the future that is not that far from now.
In Japan, the government are concerning more about ‘silver industry’ now. They think that the older people can be the biggest consuming population in the future so they are preparing to create products or services only for the older people.
We can find some tour package for the older people but we don’t consider the new media products and the services for them at all, I think. We all live in 21st century and everything that is surround us is almost new technologies. And they enriches our life much better and easier than before. For example, the mobile phone. The mobile phone is not just a phone any more. We can do many things with the small and thin new technology. However, how about the older people? They also use mobile phone everyday but do you think do they know how to use that properly? I mean do they know how to use all the functions of mobile phone? I don’t think so.
I did survey in my last year at university when is 2006, most older people answered that they know how to call but they don’t know how to use the cool functions of mobile phone.
This is my first problem and this is my first reason why I chose this topic for my project. We all use mobile phone and digital technologies but not everyone of us can use these new technologies. WHY?
Within 10 years the percentage of older people will be the first stage in our society and older people is not familiar with using the mobile phone. (or new media)
New media is getting broad and it is becoming part of our life but most older people can’t use it properly.
I would like to develop or build the mobile phone contents and techniques only for older people.
I would like to change the mobile phone or new media area for older people.

I keep thinking about my topic for the project and I can draw the BIG circle but still I can’t finish drawing the end part of the BIG circle yet. I have to think about my topic more specific and also I need to keep thinking about the details for the BIG circle.

well, i saw like this before but I would like to put this in my blog. These days we can bring everything with very small package and this watch is awesome even though i don’t like the design that much.

I saw the watch USB memory before from my Japanese friend and now it isn’t just USB memory watch. We can watch the video and record the voice. I remember the moment that the new IPod video came to us. Oh my god, it was awesome and amazing! we can watch video through the IPod but now we can watch video through even small watch. Actually I don’t carry my IPod video often these days because it is heavy. So this watch can be better to carry then IPod video? well I don’t know.
Anyway, new technologies are coming to us at every seconds and we have to follow the technologies. Also sometimes we have to spend a lot of money for the new technologies.
Well, but it is good because we can have more choices than before. But I am worrying that someday in the future we can’t choose anything because there are too many choices of new technologies.
What is research? This seems like very easy question but actually it is not. Even though I researched about several topics during my bachelor’s degree course from 2004 to 2006. I used various research skills and I did a lot of research but I can’t answer for this question at once.
Research is a human activity based on intellectual investigation and is aimed at discovering, interpreting, and revising human knowledge on different aspects of the world. Research can use the scientific method, but need not do so.

There might be various kinds of research and it will be used to all the different purposes and reasons. I also need to find the exact kind of research for my honours project for this year. I think there isn’t good research or bad research. However the importance of choosing which research skills I am going to use is how my topic can be developed or supported by which research skills. I mean what kinds of research skills. For example, I am going to read books to find the fact that support my ideas but at the same time I am going to use interview or other active research for my project as well because I can’t find the fact only from the academic sources such as books or journals etc. Sometimes the ideas that I want to research about are not developed yet so I have to use the other research skills like interview or survey.
Like this, I think there isn’t good research or bad research skills. If you need some research skills that you need then you can just find the research skills that can help your research. Also if you can’t find any research skills that you need then I think you can just invent new ways of research.
I thought I don’t need any research work for my creative work before, but I changed a lot during last 3 years in media course. Researching is not easy and simple process and sometimes of many times I can’t find the facts or resources that I really want to know. However I realized that without research I can’t make really ‘creative’ work for myself. This means I believe that research should be the compulsory for every work especially in this media area. Of course we can create something really creative but if we do the research first we can get much more creative work than before, I think.
I just googled about what is research and there are a lot of research skills around us. This means I have to research about ‘all different research skills’ first then I have to choose which research I am going to use for my research.
Research the research.
I am not sure what is research exactly but I will research continuously about this. However I am sure that I am going to find the research skills that I can really enjoy my research for this year.
It was great to back to uni actually. I graduated in 2006 then I took my time to explore the world more. I worked again in TV station in Korea and I’ve done some freelancing jobs in melbourne to produce short videos. I like working in the field rather than office so I enjoyed working at TV station a lot. However I thought I need something more than that. So I came back to uni and finally I am doing honours. I expected that honours is going to be more tough than bachelor course and it is more about research. The one thing that I am lucky is I don’t hate research. I can enjoy research and when I can find something I’ve never knows before through the research, it is just amazing! For this reason I like research and for my honours project I will use both practical and theoretical approaches and research.
Also I like the Communication and Revolutions class but it is a bit hard to understand the theory but I am sure if I do research and read more about that subject I will get the ideas what Peter want to tell us. (oh yeah, I met Marshall McLuhan again!)
The elective that I am doing is ‘Transient Spaces’ which is about web based or new forms of media and technologies. For this class we have to make web based documentary with the theme of ‘community’. Well, I will research about new media for my honours project so I think this elective course can help my research during this semester. I am still thinking about the topic for the doco and I would like to choose the topic and the methodologies for this doco with the way that I am really interested in. maybe using photography or something related in photography?
I am still half worrying and half exciting so far but one thing that I am very pleased about this course is I can meet the people who all came from different areas and ideas that means I can learn from them through the course.
Well, so far so good.
well, my new semester of honours course is already started. I’m half exciting and half worrying.
I have to do a lot of things for this semester.
